Types of shavers

According to the way the hand is operated, or according to the working trajectory of the shaver, shavers are mainly divided into three categories:

1. Sweep-type razors, straight razors (sharpening is required), alternative straight razors (blade replacement), including some eyebrow trimmers;

2. Vertical pull razors, box razors and safety razors (I call them shelf razors). Safety razors are divided into double-sided razors and single-sided razors;

3. Mobile shavers are mainly divided into reciprocating electric shavers and rotary electric shavers. There are also two niches, the clipper-type electric grooming knife that can be styled, and the single-head turbine electric shaver.

The first and second categories of people are collectively called manual shavers, and the third category is called electric shavers. Their characteristics can be compared in terms of ease of operation, cleanliness of shaving, and skin protection.

First, the ease of operation, mobile shaver > vertical pull shaver > horizontal sweep shaver;

The mobile electric shaver is the most convenient to operate. Just hold it on your face and move it around. Be careful not to press hard.

Box knives and shelf knives are vertical pull types, which are easy to use and can be mastered after using them a few times.

But a straight razor holds the handle horizontally, and the blade moves sideways, a bit like sweeping the floor with a broom on your face. A straight razor is just a blade. You have to train your hand to become a blade holder, which requires more skills. It will be a bit uncomfortable at first.

Second, shaving cleanliness, manual shaver > electric shaver;

The sweep-type and vertical-pull manual razors directly contact the skin with the blade, while the electric razor is separated by a razor blade. Therefore, the innate condition determines that the electric razor cannot shave as cleanly as a manual razor.

There is a saying that a straight razor shaves the cleanest, but the actual cleanliness is similar to other manual razors. Everyone is directly in contact with the skin with the blade. Why are you cleaner than me, even if there is a slight difference? It is also difficult for our naked eyes to distinguish them.

Among them, the reciprocating electric shaver is particularly praised. The reciprocating electric shaver is easy to use and is cleaner than the rotary shaver. Although the cleanliness of some parts is not as good as that of the manual shaver, it can be very close to the manual shaver. However, it has one disadvantage: noise. It's a bit big and a bit annoying to use especially early in the morning.

Third, protect the skin, electric shaver > manual shaver.

Shaving inevitably involves contact with the skin, and the amount of damage to the skin depends largely on whether the hair follicles at the root of the beard are disturbed.

The speed of the electric shaver is very fast. Before the beard can react, it is cut off by the electric blade with thousands of rotations per minute. Who can achieve such speed manually? Only electric shavers can do it. Therefore, the electric shaver can minimize disturbing the hair follicles and protect the skin best.
